Local SEO · Royston, Herts

SEO in Royston for small businesses.

When someone nearby searches for what you do, four things decide whether you come up: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your website and where else your business is listed. I check all four, fix what's holding you back and show you what changed.

What decides it

Four things that decide whether you show up locally.

For a local search, Google shows a map with three businesses first, then the website results. The map comes mostly from your Business Profile and reviews. The website results come mostly from your site and the sites that link to it.

Your Google Business Profile

The right category, the areas you cover, your services and prices, photos, opening hours and recent posts. A complete profile is the biggest single thing for the map results.

Your reviews

How many you have, how recent they are and whether you reply. The businesses at the top of the map usually have more of them than anyone else nearby.

Your website

Page titles that say what you do and where, a page for each main service, fast loading on a phone, and the hidden labels that tell search engines and AI tools your name, area and prices.

Listings and links

The same name, phone number and area on Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook and local directories, plus links from local websites, suppliers and clients.

Search and AI answers

The same work gets you into AI answers.

More people now ask ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Google's AI Mode "who does this near me?" instead of scrolling a list of links. Those assistants build their answers from the places Google already reads: your Business Profile, your reviews, your website and the directories you're listed in.

So there isn't a separate trick for AI. If those four places are complete and say the same thing about you, you're far more likely to be named. As part of the work, I ask the main AI assistants about your business and your area and show you what they say.

What I can't promise

Nobody can promise page one.

Google decides who ranks, and the businesses already at the top have had years to build reviews and links. Anyone who guarantees you the top spot is guessing or selling something else.

What I can do is fix everything that's in your control, show you real numbers from Google each month, and tell you straight when something isn't worth your money.

How it works

Four steps, no phone call needed.

  1. Send the form.

Your website, your Google listing, your social media, and what you'd like to be found for.

  2. Three fixes, free.

In writing, within a few days. Yours whether or not you hire me.

  3. The full list, if you want it.

The Snapshot or the Deep Dive, at a fixed price, back within a week.

  4. Fix it yourself, or have me do it.

Make the changes yourself, or I keep improving things each month through Care+.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is local SEO?
Local SEO is the work that decides whether your business comes up when someone nearby searches for what you do, for example "plumber Royston" or "hairdresser near me". It covers your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your website and the other places your business is listed online.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Fixes to your own Google Business Profile and website can show within a few weeks, once Google has looked at them again. Moving up for busy searches takes months, because the businesses at the top have had years to build reviews and links. The monthly report in Care+ shows you what has moved, so you're not taking it on trust.
Can you guarantee page one of Google?
No, and nobody honest can. Google decides who ranks. What I can do is fix everything that's in your control, show you real numbers each month and tell you what is and isn't working.
Do I need a website for local SEO?
Not to start. The map results that appear above the website results come from your Google Business Profile, so a business with no website can still show up there. A website helps you rank for more searches and gives people somewhere to check you out, and the health check tells you whether it's worth it for your business yet.
What about ChatGPT and Google's AI answers?
AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Google's AI Mode build their answers about local businesses from the same places Google uses: your Business Profile, your reviews, your website and directory listings. If those are complete and say the same thing, you're far more likely to be named. I check how the main AI assistants describe your business as part of the work.
How much does local SEO cost?
The first look is free: three things I'd fix first, in writing. The Digital Snapshot is £185 and the Deep Dive is £285, both one-off. Ongoing SEO is part of Care+ at £99 a month, month to month, for websites I look after.
My website is on Wix, Squarespace or WordPress. Can you still help?
Yes. The free first look and the Snapshot work on any website, and they come with a ranked list of fixes you can make yourself or pass to whoever built your site. Ongoing work through Care+ is for websites I host and look after.
Do I have to give you my passwords?
No. The health check is done from the outside, the way your customers see you. For ongoing work on your Google Business Profile, you add me as a manager from your own account, so you keep ownership and can remove me at any time.

Start with three free fixes.
